Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide increases the amount of CO₂ dissolved in the oceans. Unfortunately, carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the ocean reacts with water to form carbonic acid resulting in ocean acidification. Since biosystems are adapted to a narrow range of pH this is a serious concern directly driven by increased atmospheric CO₂ and not global warming.
